 RECAP OF WEDNESDAY THE 9Th

Board of Examiners Report and Recommendations

During Conference business on the afternoon of Wednesday October 9th, Presiding Prelate Bishop T. Larry Kirkland briefly handed the reigns of leadership over the Conference to Co-Presiding Bishop C. Garnett Henning, Sr. He then entertained and accepted the Conference Board of Examiners' Report and recommendation for the election and ordination of candidates for offices within the Southern California Conference— with a total of 15 well qualified candidates being elected to be ordained during Ordination Service this coming Saturday for the offices of local deacon,  itinerate deacon, local minister, and itinerate elders.

Following their elections and prior to prayer, Bishop Henning admonished each of the chosen ones to be certain within his and her heart that he and she was not only called to minister for the Church of Jesus Christ, but to do so within the African Methodist Episcopal Church of Christ. And in that spirit, Holy Trinity wishes each of the successful candidates the grace, wisdom, and guidance of God as they precede from their ordinations to serve the people of God they have been called to serve and to lead lost souls to Him Who saves the lost.

Presentation of Holy Trinity's Annual Report

Immediately following the Report of the Board of Examiners, the pastors and congregants of local Conference churches presented their Annual Reports. In turn, Holy Trinity was well represented by members who came and stood before the Conference and bishops with Pastor Gayle Davis Culp and Church Delegate Sister Wendy Milteer.

Respecting the Bishops’ request for brevity, Pastor reported on the Conference year’s conversions (10!), accessions (8), and baptisms (5); on Holy Trinity’s full membership (194); and on the soundness of the church finances—including the congregation’s coming within seven years of paying off the mortgage on the church property!

Sister Milteer then followed with the congregation's spiritual progress and growth through weekly bible study from the biblical “Story” book with scripture synchronized with that of the weekly Sunday sermon. But Sister Milteer spent the majority of her allotted time championing the reappointment of Rev. Gayle to Pastorship over the Holy Trinity congregation, with enthusiastic support from the members standing around her—including, of course, the first gentlemen and son, Brothers Jerry and Jeremy Culp.

SCC YPD ANNUAL CONVENTIOIN

Dates: October 11-12, 2013

Location: Sheraton Gateway Hotel (near LAX)

Theme: Pause, Restart, And Praise Him Again (Ps. 164:119)

The Opening Session of the Annual Convention of the Southern California Conference of the Young People's Division (YPD) will commence with a Youth Night Service on Friday October 11, 2013. Attendees will represent Mother Sunbeam (ages 2-6), Allen Star (7-12), Youth (13-17), and YPD (18-26). Activities will include praise & worship, singing and dance ministries, and spiritual nurishment through the Word of God.

During the afternoon session on Saturday October 12th, the Conference YPDers will be assembling personal care packages to be donated to the men, women, and children at the Los Angeles Mission on Skid Row. Under the dedicated supervision of Director Nancy Tatum and the dynamic leadership of YPD President Autumn Brookins and Young Adult Ministry (YAM) President Andross Milteer, Holy Trinity's YPD and YAM  has been diligently organizing and working to make a strong showing in this worthwhile service to those less fortunate than many. And it is not too late for the adult members and ministries to get behind them, pitch in, and lend a hand with donations of the following items:

  1. Tooth Brushes
  2. Toothpaste (Travel Size)
  3. Soap
  4. Deodorant
  5. Hair Brushes
  6. Hair Combs
  7. Hair Gel
  8. Facial Cloths
  9. Socks
  10. Stuffed Animals
  11. Freezer Bags

If you cannot bring items for donation directly to the Conference, please drop them off at Holy Trinity on Wedsday evening (bible study night) or Thursday evening (Free-in-One and choir rehearsal night) and they will be delivered to our YPDers and YAMers to be included with the care packages.

Praises to Him from Whom all blessings flow... and kudos to our Sister Nancy and our Holy Trinity and Conference YPDers/YAMers for closing out the Conference year on a stong and compassionate note!

Stay tuned for more updates on events, activities, and speakers as the Conference unfolds--particularly those in which Holy Trinity Auxilliaries and members will be taking part. Meanwhile, if you have any general questions about the Conference, please contact Host Church Grant A.M.E. L.A. at (323) 564-1151.
